Spring in Marrakech (March to May)

For most visitors, spring is the best time to visit Marrakech Morocco, and for good reason. The gardens are green, the orange trees are in blossom, and the snow is still on the High Atlas peaks behind the city.
- Weather Marrakech Morocco April: highs around 78°F, cool mornings and evenings, and very little rain. April is ideal for long walks in the medina and for gardens like Jardin Majorelle.
- March can bring a few showers, and May starts to feel like early summer by the afternoon.
Spring is also a lovely time for the Atlas Mountains, with green valleys and waterfalls at their fullest.
Summer in Marrakech (June to August): when to avoid the heat
If you are wondering when to avoid Marrakech, July and August are the honest answer for most travelers. Afternoon highs often reach 100°F, and the medina lanes hold the heat.
That said, summer can still work if you plan around it: explore early in the morning, rest in your riad pool through the hottest hours, and come back out after sunset when Jemaa el Fna is at its liveliest. It is also the perfect time for a day on the Atlantic coast in Essaouira, where the breeze keeps things much cooler.
Autumn in Marrakech (September to November)

Autumn is the second great window, and the best season if you also want the Sahara. September is still hot, but October and November bring warm days, clear skies and comfortable nights.
- Marrakech Morocco weather November: highs around 74°F and lows around 51°F, with an occasional shower. It is one of the most pleasant months for both the city and the desert.
- October is warm and settled, ideal for rooftop dinners and day trips.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi are at their best now, with warm days and cool nights instead of the summer heat. Our Merzouga and Sahara guide explains what to expect.
Winter in Marrakech (December to February)

Winter is quiet, sunny and good value, with fewer crowds at the big sights. Days are mild, but nights get cold, and many riads are not heated as well as hotels.
- Morocco Marrakech December weather: sunny days around 68°F and nights around 45°F. The city is festive around the end of the year, when many Europeans visit.
- Morocco weather January Marrakech: the coolest month, with highs around 66°F and lows around 43°F. Clear winter days give the best views of the snowy Atlas.
- Morocco Marrakech weather in February: a little warmer, around 69°F, with almond trees blossoming in the valleys.
Winter is the season for snow in the High Atlas. A day trip to the mountain villages with a private driver who knows the winter roads is one of the easiest ways to see it. Our Atlas Mountains guide has more on the villages and walks.
Ramadan and holidays in Marrakech
Ramadan follows the Islamic lunar calendar, so it moves about 11 days earlier each year. In 2027 it is expected to begin around February 8 and end around March 9, but Morocco confirms the exact dates by moon sighting the evening before, so check timeanddate closer to your trip.
Visiting during Ramadan is fine and can be special. Sights stay open, though some hours are shorter, many local restaurants close during the day, and the city comes alive after sunset when families break the fast. Eating and drinking discreetly in public during the day is a kind gesture.
What to pack for each season
- Spring and autumn: light layers, a sweater for the evenings and comfortable walking shoes.
- Summer: loose, breathable clothes that cover shoulders and knees, a hat, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen.
- Winter: a warm jacket for the evenings, a scarf and warm socks for riad nights. Pack a fleece if you plan to visit the Atlas.
Covering shoulders and knees is the most comfortable choice in the medina in every season. Our guide to the best time to visit Morocco shows how the seasons change across the rest of the country.
